About Dr. Mike Urban
I grew up in the suburb of Rocky River, Ohio and spent a significant amount of my youth in and around Cleveland. I received my undergraduate training at Bowling Green State University in Ohio as an Exercise Specialist. I began sport performance training and cardiovascular rehabilitation. After years in the sports training industry I wanted to further my studies to treat my clients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions. I moved to St. Louis and started a dual degree program at Logan College of Chiropractic, where I finished a second baccalaureate degree in Life Sciences and completed the Doctor of Chiropractic Degree program. During my last year at Logan I attended a preceptorship program at Chapel, McMurtrie & Bartlett Chiropractic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic.
Chiropractic licensure requires successful completion of four rigorous National Board examinations, which cover basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, and public health) as well as clinical sciences (orthopedics, neurology, physical examination, diagnosis, radiology and physiotherapy). In addition, the state of Ohio has a written examination in the areas of physical examination, diagnosis, treatment, radiology and patient care.
My chiropractic training was unique in that it included significant clinical training through Chapel, McMurtrie & Bartlett Chiropractic Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic in Chesterfield, Missouri. Prior to the preceptorship, I was a clinic leader in the Biofreeze Rehabilitative Center Human Performance Center making rounds with patients and assisting colleagues in their earlier training. My time with the patients and attending physicians fostered my desire to practice in a multi-disciplinary setting and eventually led me here.
In addition to my education, I held an active certification with Active Release Techniques from 2006- 2016. Having this past certification, I am confident in treating neuromusculoskeletal conditions with this additional certification. ART® is a specific examination and treatment to muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. There are over 500 protocols and understanding the layers of anatomy and the functional movement patterns makes this technique very effective. I was certified in Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, Spine, Long Nerve Entrapments and Master Series.
I am happily married to Camille, who is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at the Avon Hospital Cleveland Clinic, and we are proud parents to Xander, Eliana and Graelyn. We have a Vizsla named Paxton. Some of our favorite activities include trying new restaurants, working out, rock climbing, traveling to new places and spending quality time together.
